As I have said before in other blogs, I have bad skin, where it has its good days and bad days. I have combination skin; I get very dry skin especially in winter and I get oily every day on my T zone. I also get redness around my cheeks, forehead, and chin as well as really bad acne and I have sensitive skin. This means I change my routine to try see what works best for me. I use a variety of products so of which people might not think of using to see if it is any good.
When I first started wearing makeup I didn’t research or understand my skin type. But through watching YouTube videos and reading articles online I have learnt what isn’t good for my skin and I am still learning.
Face Wipes
I always take my make up off with wipes and over the years I have used loads of different types. Here are some of them:
Pure Sensitive wipes Poundland-
At first, they are good, but they dry out easily. I then end up soaking the wipe with a cleanser Micellar water before use which gets off majority of my makeup. I then do it once more if I have time and can be bothered. I mean who has time to keep removing make up off over and over again until nothing is on the wipe or a pad if you prefer a pad.
Simple cleansing wipes-
These have been some of my best make up wipes. They stay hydrated and if I don’t want to use a cleanser then using these wipes are enough.
Lacura 3 in 1 Cleansing Facial Wipes Aldi-
I have only just started using these and so far, so good. They stay wet so it’s easy enough to take my make up off but when I want to be quick, I use cleanser Micellar water which makes it easy. When I first used these wipes, my skin was a little bit sensitive to it
Cleansers
Since I have had bad skin, I thought that I wasn’t removing my make up enough and that my pores were still clogged up and gave me bad skin with extremely bad spots. So, within the last few years I have started using cleansers to also take off my makeup. I have only used two Micellar water cleansers.
Garnier Micellar Water Sensitive-
This was the first Micellar water that I used. When I first tried it, I loved it and still do. It removes my make up very easily, where I can get majority of my make up off my face while putting this onto one face wipe.
Simple Micellar Cleansing Water-
I heard that this was just as good as the Garnier one which was why I thought about trying something new. I was just as impressed as I was with the Garnier one. I do find that Garnier is a touch better where Simple can slightly make my face feel a little dry. Garnier gives the moisture in my face which makes it less dry.
Moisturisers
Since I have very dry skin, yet it can get oily it is important for me to use a good moisturiser every day that isn’t super oily. Here are some of the moisturisers I have used:
Nivea Crème-
I usually use Nivea Crème every day and one other moisture. I have found that using Nivea Crème has helped kept my noise, mouth and chin hydrated, no matter what, even if I change the other moisturiser.
Lush Cosmetic Lad & Lush Skin Drink-
I heard how good Lush Cosmetics are for the skin, so I went to see what they thought was best on my skin. They recommended Cosmetic Lad and Skin Drink, one for the day the other at night or when I have extremely bad skin. I took testers home and used it every day until I used the testers up. Both products were great on my skin. I didn’t have any reaction Since then I have loved using Lush Cosmetics.
Simple Kind To Skin Hydrating Light Moisturiser-
I only have started to use this recently and I have seen a difference it has done to my skin. It doesn’t feel as dry as what it used to, so I have been loving this moisturiser. And would recommend it for any skin type as it’s not too oily and not to drying.
Lacura Q10 Renew Night Aldi-
Where to start with this moisturiser… When I first put it onto my fingers, I thought the texture was very oily and sticky but when I transferred it to my face I was in shock. Not a good shocked but bad shocked as it was terrible. Has to be one of the worst moisturisers I have ever used. The best way to describe it, it was like glue sticking in one place as I could not rub it into my skin and if I tried it would need a lot of force. I do not recommend this.
Nivea Refreshingly Soft Moisturising Cream for face, hands and body-
From what I can remember this wasn’t the worse moisturising cream but wasn’t the best. It gave me some hydration but yet at points my skin felt dry.
L’Oréal Paris Triple Active Day Multi-Protection Moisturiser Cream-
This moisturiser was good for hydrating my skin but when it came to adding a primer on told the moisturiser clumped up into balls.
Garnier Natural Rose Water Moisturiser Sensitive Skin-
This was very watery for my skin as it sat on top of the skin rather than sank into it. It didn’t hydrate my skin as much as I wanted it to since I thought it would with the water.
Garnier Moisture Bomb Glow Day Cream Moisturiser-
Garnier Moisturiser Bomb Glow Day definitely left my skin glowing but again was a little too watery for my skin as it sat on top of my skin rather than sinking into it to let my skin hydrate.
The Body Shop Vitamin E Moisture Cream-
Since The Body Shop is so well known for its skin and body care products I thought that there moisturising cream was a little bit of a let-down. I preferred this than their Vitamin E Night Cream but didn’t give me enough moisture for my skin to not go dry. I have although loved some of their other products such as their body lotions, hand creams and body washes.
The Body Shop Vitamin E Night Cream-
I like a good moisturising cream at night as when I wake up if my skin is not well hydrated in the night it can go dry by the morning. So, this cream was a bit of a let-down. It is not the worst cream but isn’t the best.
Masks
These are some of the masks I have used before. They all have done what they say they do. I have used moisturising ones when my skin is super dry and the pore strips for when I need to get rid of my blackheads. I use these as and when they are needed so I don’t irritate my skin. I sometimes use these once a month or sometimes more often depending how my skin is. Here are some that I have used:
Garnier Moisture Bomb Pomegranate Hydrating Face Sheet Mask-
Biore Deep Cleansing Charcoal Pore Strips-
Simple Kind To Skin Rich Moisture Sheet Mask-
Garnier Pure Active 4 Charcoal Anti Blackhead Nose Strips-
Garnier Moisture Bomb Sakura Hydrating Face Sheet Mask-
Exfoliating
I started exfoliating first before I used masks as I thought exfoliating would help my dry skin and help clear it from my bad acne. I have listed some of the products I have used most of which did not work for my skin. The best one that I have been loving over the last few years has been Garnier Pure Active Intensive Blackhead Exfoliating Face Scrub. Although it hasn’t helped get rid of my blackheads or my bad spots it has helped keep my skin softer compared to the others. I use it every 2 days, so that I can leave my skin naturally in case I get a rash and irritation since I have sensitive skin and redness. Here are some I have used:
Garnier Pure Active Intensive Blackhead Exfoliating Face Scrub-
Clean & Clear Blackhead Scrub-
Clean & Clear Exfoliating Daily Facial Wash-
Clearasil Ultra Rapid Action Scrub-
Freederm Exfoliating Facial Wash-
